Our Animals

This page will be sort of a log of the different animals we have over time. Some will be kept as pets, some will be kept as breeders, and some will be eventually harvested and eaten.

Our first two chicks came to us via my dad on June 9th 2011. One of the chicks died an untimely death in a drowning accident. Her name was Pinkie, and she was loved for the short time she was with us.

The second chick has been named Betty Complex. Because she was all alone without her best mate Pinkie, and only had the comfort of the ducklings, my dad purchased two more chicks to be her best mates.

As Betty Complex goes through all the changes a young pullet will go through, she has taken full responsibility for her two new illegitimate children. She is a great foster mother and enjoys roosting on a broom stick I put into their temporary pen. We hope soon to have their small chicken coop built.

All three of these chicks are keepers as pets. Their eggs will be collected, they will be spared the dinner plate since they are Simmi’s gifts from my dad.

Ferdinand our first drake. He will be a part of our breeding stock.

This is Dottie, she is our alpha female. Even though she isn’t the standard for a Magpie, we will be keeping her for the pure entertainment. Her eggs will be harvested and any offspring that aren’t the standard breed will meet the plate.

King Louie is our largest drake and is a part of our breeding stock. All of the photos taken as I write this are of our stock at around 8 weeks old, and they are still molting right now. They are still getting more of their white feathers.

Baron Von Liechtenstein

Cleopatra Jones (Ameraucana chicken)

Dora the horny bird.

Stella the other horny bird

We do have other ducks and drakes, but after awhile, I think they all start to look a like to those who haven’t spent time with them.

One of our angora does which will be bred as a fiber animal.

Another angora doe, we haven’t named the females yet.

Our angora buck. Yes we named him Buck. LOL

Thanks for reading! I love comments and feedback so talk to me!

Hi Eli,
I LOVE pygmy goats and I can’t wait till we get some. They supposedly have more butterfat in their milk than other breeds of dairy goats. I’ve also heard that milking them only once a day will increase the amount of butterfat you get in the milk. :) Its good to know right?
Let me know when you get your goats. I would love to share them on our site if you wanted to do a guest blog posting.
